Another year of baseball is over. We have to wait until March and April to get the next look into the new season going. Its a long wait, and the freshest thing on all baseball fans minds is the winner of the World Series.
The St. Louis Cardinals.
Obviously, the MVP would probably be Frees, with his amazing and inspiring homerun during Game 6. His dream was realized and that instilled new hope in him, just an inspiring story. Albert Pujols is an important player too, and he now has another winning season under his bealt.
The thing I am most happy about, as a Cubs fan, is that one of my favorite players, Ryan Theriot, was on the roster and played during the Series. He has won a World Series, something that is every baseball players goal. He didn't really make any significant plays or anything, but he had a sac-RBI that brought in a run. And everyone knows that every run scored makes a difference, even in the high scoring games.
How will the Cardinals look next year? With the retirement of La Russa, probably a lot different. Alber Pujols will most likely be leaving too, which will change a lot of the offensive line up. Other players need to step up and fill in the gap that will be left and then the Cardinals could potentially have another winning season.
Congratulations to the Cardinals, I am glad you won.

"The Iron Horse"
Probably one of the greatest baseball players of all time, Lou Gehrig, played for the Yankees his entire baseball career, 16 seasons. He was most famous for playing 2,130 consecutive games, a record that stood for decades until Cal Ripken Jr broke it in 1995. Lou played his hardest always. I believe it was probably more difficult for Lou to attain this victory than it was for Ripken to break it. In 1995, more medical advances, pain killers, and more efficient ways of doing things had come about. Lou Gehrig didn't have Tylenol or Iboprofen, he had to suffer through when he broke his hand a few times and even passed out once.
His Major League debut was on June 15, 1923. Lou was a lefty, and was first baseman for the majority of his career, except when he was only pinch hitting in his first two seasons. Lou Gehrig won the World Series six times, and he went other times and did not win. His last game was on April 30, 1939. His jersey, Number 4, was the first jersey to be retired by the Yankees.
Never heard of Lou, you say? Lou Gehrig spent most of his career living in the large shadow, Babe Ruth. I know you don't have to know hardly a thing about baseball and you know who Babe Ruth is! He has his own candy bar and everything! While Babe Ruth was an extraordinary player, I believe Lou Gehrig was just as good, if not better, especially when it came to running those bases.
If you haven't heard of Lou Gehrig, you may have heard the disease he died from. ALS, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, made him weaken and shorten his baseball career and life by many years. This caused him to be put into the Baseball Hall of Fame very early, and the standard of waiting two years after a player has retired was waved and Lou was nominated Unanimously in 1939, a few months after his last game. His batting average when he retired was .340. That is without sterroids and booster drugs. That is all natural talent.
Lou died on June 2, 1941, a few days away from his 39th birthday. His amazing skill and talent in baseball will live on forever, because Lou Gehrig is one of the best baseball players baseball has ever seen.

The First Post
This is the first post in my new baseball blog! I am so excited!
I am the daughter of "The Baseball Enthusiast" <http://xtrabasehit.blogspot.com> and I am not expecting a lot of views.
I can amatuerly score games, but I am not as good as my dad.
I believe that baseball is the best sport ever, and my opinions on other sports are rather harsh.
If I criticize a player, its just because they can improve. Everyone can improve!
I don't like some players more than others. So if I compliment the ones I don't like, you know it's something big.
I am not totally sure exactly what I am going to do. Probably do featured players, both from today and in the "Good Ole Days."
I probably will not get on the blog everyday, I am a pretty busy girl.
Yes, I am a girl overly obsessed with baseball.
No, I have never played baseball. I used to play softball though. I was an outfielder.
I am a huge Cubs fan. But I have respect for all teams. Some more than others, but I still respect them.
That is all for now I think. If you have a specific question or someone/something you want me to post about, shoot me a question on my blog formspring at <http://www.formspring.me/search/index?wizard=true&next=follow/stream&c=1>
I'm still deciding on whether to get a Twitter or not.
